This illustration is based on the myth called “The Curse of Micah Rood.” The story is about a farmer who’s kills a peddler in a fit of rage and buries him under the apple tree. The town’s people find out about it a year later when teenagers pick an apple from the tree and find blood clots in the apple. When the town’s people go to confront Micah, they find him hanging from the same apple tree he buried the peddler under.
