Hi my name is Maddy! I am in my last semester here at SUNY Adirondack and will graduate this Spring. I will be continuing my education after graduation to keep on the path of becoming a social worker. In my free time, I enjoy traveling and adventuring in many different places around the world. I enjoyed being a part of the crew for the Literary Magazine and had tons of fun watching it come together.

Hi! My name is Gabrielle but most call me Gabby. I am a Creative Writing Major. I love reading and writing in many different genres! My favorite is fantasy. I love being in nature! I have an orange and white cat named Gwen. I am normally shy but during the magazine, I stepped up and became a meeting manager which was fun. Hope you enjoy the magazine!

Alexander Dickey

Proofreader

Hello! My name is Alex Dickey, I am 20 years old, and I am a Liberal Arts Major in my last semester at SUNY Adirondack. After I graduate, I plan on taking a year off to earn some money before going to a college out of state. Most of my downtime is spent listening to music, going on walks, reading, and writing. In the future, I hope to be doing something with writing, whatever that turns out to be. It’s been a pleasure to work with this group, and this will be a time that I’ll look back on fondly.

Caterina Hansen

Meeting Manager, Design Team

Hi! I’m Cat and I am a Liberal Arts major here at SUNY Adirondack. This is my final semester before I transfer to get my BA in English, in hopes to be a high school English teacher one day. I enjoy writing, sailing, camping and reading in the sun. Lit Mag has been such a lovely experience and I'm so happy to share these amazing pieces with all of you!

Hello, everyone! My name is Dennis Lion and I am a Creative Writing Major set to graduate at the end of this semester. I am planning on transferring next semester to earn my degree in Child Inclusive Education in hopes of becoming a teacher someday. I enjoy listening to and playing music, writing, reading, and anything outdoors. Working on the Literary Magazine has been such a fun experience and I hope you all enjoy the compositions as much as I did.

Kayla Mattison

“The most wonderful thing about Tigger is, I’m the only one.”

Hihi, my name is Kayla! I am currently enrolled and majoring in Creative Writing. I have enjoyed English for a good majority of my life and excel at it. I love to read mystery teen fiction and manga. My greatest strength is writing poetry. My personality would be described as kind, compassionate and goofy. My guinea pigs, Carmela and Oreo, are two of the greatest models I have seen. I also reallllyyy love koalas and Disney.

Noelle Olszewski

Social Media Manager, Design Team

Hi! My name is Noelle Olszewski and this is my last semester here at SUNY Adirondack before I go on to SUNY Brockport for my bachelors in Psychology. In my free time, I love to read, listen to music, do special effects makeup and play with my dog, Bree. I definitely look forward to exploring more of the world in the future as it is a goal of mine to visit every continent at least once; 3 down 4 to go! I wasn’t sure what I was expecting out of this class but I definitely was not expecting for it to be as fun as it was and to have such a great group of people to work with.

Katelyn McKeone

File Manager, Proofreader

Hi there! I’m Katelyn, a 20-year-old Creative Writing Major in my final semester. I have a 10-year-old rabbit named Sprinkles who loves bananas and raisins. After college, I plan to become a veterinary assistant while looking for a permanent job in writing. I like many creative endeavors including image manipulation, video editing, drawing, and of course, writing. I enjoy helping and inspiring others. Naturally timid, I’m now enjoying exploring new experiences and can’t wait to see what awaits in the future.

Alexandrea Scarchilli

Meeting Manager, Communications

Hey party people! My name is Alexandrea Michael Scarchilli. I am 29 years young, majoring in Psychology. I walk the stage in May 2022 to receive my associates degree which I will be dedicating to my 11 year old son David, better known as “The Dude.” I am the lead vocalist for my band “Smart Alex.” I love to go on walks, in rain, snow, or sunshine; it's my favorite exercise with yoga as a close second. I love to cook. I spend a lot of time making magic happen in the kitchen. Growing my own herbs and spices is also a favorite pastime of mine; catch me with dirt-stained hands all Summer long. I love to write poetry, but I also enjoy getting wrapped up in the creation of short stories. Family and friends are extremely important to me, so I spend most of my spare time conjuring up good times with them. I plan to someday become a therapist specializing in PTSD. Truly, my one wish in life is to inspire, however that may look. This editorial staff was a pleasure to work with; so many laughs, so many characters all in one show. You are all going to do great things. See you around!

Avonlea Stiles

Meeting Manager, Secretary

Howdy, I’m Avonlea, I’m 22, and I am an education major in my (hopefully, and sadly) last semester at SUNY Adirondack. I am in the process of getting my degrees to be a middle school English teacher, and my experience with Expressions has helped me get an idea of how I could try to run a classroom. In my free time, I love to play with my dog Budie, write, and spend countless hours on Xbox with the boys. I have had so much fun with the magazine and I hope you enjoy it!

Write me a Bio

Expressions could not be made without our wonderful submitters. Without your submissions, our biographies would be pointlessly waiting for a wandering eye to give us attention. You help us write these bios, giving us the audience we need to shape our words into the perfect form. So your turn, submitters. Write me a biography.

Nancy White

Almighty Expert of All Things Lit Mag

This is my 23rd year as an English professor here at SUNY Adirondack, and it’s my privilege to serve as the instructor of English 261, The Literary Magazine, where magic happens every single crazy year. I’ve been on the editorial board at two literary journals, and am the author of three poetry collections: Sun, Moon, Salt (winner of the Washington Prize), Detour, and Ask Again Later. My poems have appeared in Beloit Poetry Review, FIELD, New England Review, Ploughshares, Rhino, and others, and my creative nonfiction appears in the anthology Deep Beauty. As editor-in-chief of The Word Works in Washington, D. C., I’ve noticed that I end up giving the same advice to professional writers that I give to my students here. A writer is a writer is a writer, it seems.
